Personal Statement Talk at Sunway University

27 July 2015

One of MMI UK’s missions is to aid students in Malaysia in their applications to enter UK medical schools. By utilising our experience as medical students already in the UK, we believe that the advice and information we can give will further enhance their applications.

On the 27th of July 2015, three students from MMI UK - Joanna Wong from Imperial College London, Amanda Koh from University College London and Amirul Ikhwan from University of Birmingham visited Sunway University to speak to 80 Sunway college students about personal statement writing. The talk included general tips, a run through of a good personal statement, an interactive proof-reading activity and lastly a question and answer session. Even after the two-hour event concluded, many students approached the speakers personally to ask not only about their personal statements, but also about the everyday life of a medical student studying in the UK.

We hope that these aspiring doctors left the hall with newfound information that they can apply in their personal statement. The main take home message of the day was to ensure that your personal statement is reflective and exuded motivation and passion. All the best in your application!
